Social platforms change every week, and it is easy to miss the updates that actually affect your reach, reporting or ad results. We have picked the changes from the last few months that matter most for businesses and brands.
Meta’s teen safety settlement
Meta agreed to pay close to $18 billion to settle a multistate US lawsuit over claims that Facebook and Instagram were designed to be addictive for young users. As part of the deal, Meta will set a default two-hour daily time limit for teens across both apps, along with other safety controls, for the next ten years. Meta has also publicly called on TikTok and YouTube to adopt similar protections.
What it means for you: if your brand targets teenagers, expect less time and reach with that audience on Meta’s apps, and plan for stricter rules across the industry.
Reach is being measured differently
Meta rolled out version 25 of its Graph and Marketing APIs, introducing a new “Page Viewer” metric that replaces older reach metrics, plus the retirement of some older metrics and campaign types. If you use dashboards or reporting tools connected to Meta, your numbers may look different, so compare trends carefully before and after the switch.
New Instagram and Facebook features
- Instagram now lets creators change the in-app music on a post or carousel after publishing, without deleting and re-uploading.
- You can now pin comments under Instagram posts, which is useful for FAQs, offers or links.
- Facebook launched a Creator Fast Track programme offering eligible established creators extra Reels reach and up to three months of guaranteed earnings.
- Meta added a target-audience filter to its creator marketplaces, making it easier to find the right influencers.
TikTok and Disney’s creator partnership
Disney and TikTok announced a global partnership that lets creators use licensed Disney content in their videos. For now it is opt-in for individual creators, and there is no published guidance yet for brand-sponsored content, so it is not a green light for co-branded campaigns. It is, however, a good moment to build relationships with creators in your niche.
AI tools for social advertisers
Snapchat launched an Ads Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets advertisers plan and refine Snapchat campaigns through AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. Admins must approve each AI connection, and at launch access is read-only. On LinkedIn, comments are now ranked by relevance, which rewards thoughtful replies over quick “great post” comments.
Holiday season: start early
Meta reports that 86% of global holiday shoppers use social media for inspiration and that many people who discover products on Instagram go on to buy. Its advice is to launch holiday campaigns early so the ad system has time to learn before the busiest shopping days. Note that these figures come from Meta itself.
Your social media checklist
- Pin a helpful comment (offer, FAQ or contact link) on your best posts.
- Check your reporting tools for the new Meta reach metrics.
- Reply to comments with real value, especially on LinkedIn.
- Start holiday content and ads early.
- Build relationships with a few relevant local creators.
- Review audience targeting if you market to younger users.
